Hosting Kode9 and Pinch on the same night celebrates an impressive musical heritage. The two labels also represent separate visions of music and cultural influence rooted in London and Bristol. With countless releases and artists putting out their first releases on these labels, Kode9 and Pinch are uncontested key figures in music history.
Room 1 also welcomes the head honcho of Black Rhino Radio Low Freq to open the night and aim+wall crew with a close set for the night.
In Room 2, the music veterans VRT and Seb enter with a back-to-back set, playing '90s house and breaks, creating a perfect transition between the two rooms.
KODE9 (20 years of Hyperdub)
Kode9, aka Steve Goodman, is a true music visionary. He has made a significant impact on the electronic music scene through his inventive sound and ability to seamlessly combine academic depth and club culture. As the founder of the widely respected Hyperdub, he helped shape genres like Dubstep, UK Garage, and Grime while supporting groundbreaking artists — such as Burial and Jessy Lanza. Goodman's scholarship, such as his book ‘Sonic Warfare’, published by MIT Press in 2010, provides a strong theoretical foundation for his musical output. His music often reflects socio-political themes and features intricate, broken beats and dense soundscapes, creating an atmosphere that engages listeners both intellectually and viscerally.
PINCH [Tectonic]
Rob Ellis's life is driven by a quest to create original dance music. Known as Pinch, he's a pioneer of dubstep and has made waves within the UK music scene with his influential Subloaded events in Bristol. Pinch blends elements of dub and techno in his productions and DJ sets, keeping a global demand for his endlessly permuting music going. His label Tectonic has been a platform for some of the most innovative dance music producers in the industry — Loefah, Skream, Scientist, 2562, Photek, Digital Mystikz, Distance, Flying Lotus, Joker, Addison Groove and Peverelist —, with collaborations alongside other leading labels like Planet Mu, Soul Jazz and more.
LOW FREQ [Black Rhino]
Low Freq, aka Codin Oraseanu, has been a prominent figure in the Romanian music scene for over 15 years. A multifaceted individual, he wears many hats as a music producer, DJ, and event organizer. Low Freq has a soft spot for bass and roots music (and sometimes heavy industrial sounds) and has collaborated with acts like Blanzoz and Shadowbox. His musical expertise has also led him to establish Black Rhino Radio, which champions the culture, sound and effervescence of the Romanian underground.
aim+wall
aim+wall is a collective dedicated to the exploration of cutting-edge electronic music. Their mission is to push the boundaries of sonic expression, fusing elements of UK bass, Chicago footwork, jungle, electro, and IDM into a cohesive sound. Be it through their radio shows, DJ sets, or productions, matei, noidzsh & djfacmuzica seek to create a unified movement that celebrates innovation and introduces listeners to enticing new sounds.
VRT & Seb
The same evening, Room 2 gets to live a resurgence of 90s House and Breaks, as VRT & Seb step in behind the decks for the entire night.
